February 21, 2001-Dearborn, MI- As if bringing Andy Hertzfeld, “Bud” Tribble and Caroline Rose together for a Macintosh engineering reunion weren’t enough, the folks at MacHack: The Annual Conference for Leading Edge Developers has landed another member of the original Macintosh team, Bruce Horn.

Bruce Horn is a cofounder and Chief Technical Officer of Marketocracy, Inc., a firm using the Internet to educate, identify and recruit the world’s top investors in order to build a family of mutual funds, today announced the availability of a new subscription service, the Marketocracy Index 100 (M100).

Bruce started working at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in the Smalltalk group at the age of 13, and was introduced to the world of object-oriented programming through Smalltalk. There he was involved in a variety of projects over the years, including implementations of Smalltalk on the Dorado, a high-speed ECL research machine; the NoteTaker, a portable multiprocessor machine; and the Mycron-2000, a research machine at the University of Oslo. At Apple, he was responsible for the design and implementation of the Finder, Resource Manager, Dialog Manager, the type/creator mechanism for files and applications, the desktop database, and the multitype clipboard design, among other architectural innovations in the Mac OS.

Bruce has also worked with Maya Design Group, Adobe Systems, Inc., and Eloquent, Inc., and has consulted for a variety of startups and high-tech companies, including Apple. He founded Ingenuity Software in 1997 to create a new breed of information management tool, iFile. Currently Bruce is CTO of Marketocracy, in Los Altos, CA.

Mr. Horn received a BS in Mathematical Sciences from Stanford University, and an MS and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie-Mellon University.

Bruce will join the keynote panel that will begin at 12:01 AM on June 21 and run until it is over. The format will be loose. Expect reminiscences, musing on the future of the industry and as always the unexpected.

MacHack 2001 will take place June 21-23, 2001, in Dearborn, Michigan. This unprecedented keynote panel will convene at the traditional 12:01 AM on June 21 to kick off the 72-hour marathon conference. More information is available on the Web from <http://www.machack.com/>.

Full attendees can register for $425 online, a savings of $100 of the regular registration rate, this price is good until Feb. 28, 2001. Students can register for $50, which includes all-access to the conference as well as a special meal package. Total attendance is limited to 400. Student attendance is limited to 50.
